Children's Camp Song
Soon speeds the morning light proclaiming
the sunshine’s golden rays ;
this youth, the powers of dark defaming
will see the light of day ;
and peace, from heaven in descending
reprieve all men from grief unending ;
then doomed are evil, sin and vice
and earth becomes a paradise
and earth becomes a paradise !
- From "Bald prangt den Morgen zuverkunden"
The Magic Flute, Mozart

Children
What better place to begin “World B Well” than with children ? Among manifestations of water, children might best be compared to the rain : precious, ever hoped for ; and when they arrive among us, ever a source of hope. Children, with the purity and fresh impulses they bring - fresh from God, a true sources of living water nourishing our earth. |
Children face us with great tasks and responsibilities. Who are these tiny people, suddenly arrived in our midst ? How can we rightly and truly receive them ? If we're honest - if we look at all beneath the surface - our priorities are not much to be proud off. Our corporations market intensely to them and to their needs. Our jobs and work life compete with them for our time and attention. Our world pours impressions and experiences on them with little thought for their immature bodies and senses, pours substances into them with little question what they can tolerate. We have hopes for our children, but how much real knowledge of child development can we claim ? Or do we just do with them what occurs to us, what we've been told - or sold - and hope for the best ?
Children are a source of life and hope for our future - but they're not indestructible. It's time we truly think - that we learn what's really good or harmful for children, and follow up with action. These resources are intended as food for thought in considering children, not just as beings of body and intelligence, but also of soul and spirit.
